THE HM ALUMNI BOOK DAY CHAT on April 17, 2023
Book Day is a decades-long tradition when Upper Division classes are suspended for an entire day so that the entire HM community of students, faculty, parents/guardians, alumni, and administrators can examine and discuss one book they have all read. This event was last held in February 2020, just before the onset of the global pandemic.
The 2023 Book Day selection is Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang, a collection of science fiction/fantasy short stories that touches on the themes of beauty, religion, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, ethics, mathematics, art, psychology, and communication, among other topics.
On April 17, 2023, HM alumni from across the generations will come together with select faculty and a panel of experts for an in-depth discussion of the themes and issues raised by the book. A light meal and refreshments will be offered. Pre-registration is required.
